Positive aspects of this (pros): helps control anxiety
Negative aspects of this (cons): level needs increased the more I took

The theory was that changing the anxiety meds helped make them start working again at a lower level. However in reality, it didn't help me at all because I kept needing a higher & higher amount no matter what the med.

Positive aspects of this (pros): You can't feel a thing
Negative aspects of this (cons): Addictive

I have heard wonderful things about this drug from the addicts in my life! But as a cure all...Therapy and time is a way better treatment. I think doctors should be more careful before prescribing this drug.

Positive aspects of this (pros): it is effective in controlling my anxiety and panic attacks
Negative aspects of this (cons): I have not experienced any side effects

I think xanax my be getting a bad rating for being addictive. My rx is for up to 6mg per day but I do not always require the higher doses. I often do not take any. I have never had to have early refills in over 4 years of taking xanax. I don not drink alcohol. Perhaps those people prone addictive behaviors should avoid xanax.

Positive aspects of this (pros): helped anxiety and sleep
Negative aspects of this (cons): memory problems

It relieved my anxiety and paranoia tremendously. I only take it when I feel anxious because it effects my memory a lot and made me feel out of it.

Positive aspects of this (pros): calms the nerves, clears the mind
Negative aspects of this (cons): makes focusing difficult, clears the mind too much at times

Xanax is a good drug for soothing anxiety and for clearing and calming one's mind. For those with ADD or ADHD, Xanax can be very helpful in calming jitters and scattered thoughts, though it can also make focusing on tasks or problems even more of a task.

Positive aspects of this (pros): alleviates anxiety & panic attacks well & quickly
Negative aspects of this (cons): addictive

I've been prescribed this for anxiety/PAs/dysphoric mania for many years. It works but it's addictive; most people who take it regularly have to keep increasing the dose to get the same effect and that's what happened to me. When my pdoc put me on depakote for mania I was able to drastically cut my daily xanax dosage. Now if I'm going into a superstressful situation, I can take .25 and really feel the difference. Xanax works but it's a better short term than long term solution to anxiety and PAs.

Positive aspects of this (pros): nothing positive
Negative aspects of this (cons): makes one fall down, loose sense of direction

This made me into nobody. Developed extreme fear toward anything from a pencil to trees outside. Became very sensitive to noise. Kept falling down. Stopped talking entirely. Lost sleep. Felt agitated. Anxious. Lost vision. Face turned yellowish. Hands lost control. I can't recall the rest. I died once with this medicine. I quit taking it after being on it for a couple of weeks or so.
Felt so much better as soon as I stopped taking it. I don't know why my doctor
thought this is good for me.

Positive aspects of this (pros): calmed me down
Negative aspects of this (cons): memory loss, extreme drowziness

It was alright- in that it calmed me down. I have extreme panic disorder so its fabulous in that respect. However I had severe memory loss, and extreme drowiness which cause me to sometimes not be able to get up if I had been sitting down, lying down etc. I only take xanax now when im extremly anxious and on the verge of losing my mind as I hate the side effects- so not having a more long term even a short term treatment with less severe side effects makes it hard for me to function properly in society with my extreme symptoms of panic disorder. i spose it works for some and not for others.

Positive aspects of this (pros): helped me sleep better
Negative aspects of this (cons): makes you feel like you have no energy

It just made me really sleepy, I had to take a nap during the day. I'm not really sure that it helped my anxiety, it kind of made me more depressed because i had no energy.

Positive aspects of this (pros): Really helps in an acute panic attack
Negative aspects of this (cons): If the usage is regular, it may start causing too much tiredness and loss of energy

This is a really good pill for acute panick attack, but one shouldn't start taking it on day basis, as for ensuring that the attack doesn't come therefore, cause it can make you too tired if taken every day, even small amounts.
So one should take let's say only one alprazolam per day, like 0,5 mg, because it's not realistic not to take at all if you really have a panic disorder, but it's better to save the rest of the pills for a situation when they are really needer, if you're going in the center of the city, travelling somewhere, facing some situation where you've had panic feelings.

One good thing about alp. is that it doesn't make you numb and emotionless like some SSRI-pills, and it really helps immediately, not after 3 weeks or so.
And one doesn't HAVE to increase the dosage, in terms as if the original relatively low dosage wouldn't work after a while if you don't increase, growing the dosage is not necessary, it's voluntary allthough allways easy to do so like in all benzos.

Positive aspects of this (pros): stops panic and anxiety attacks, helps you sleep, doesn't stay in your system for too long
Negative aspects of this (cons): drowziness, dizziness, body becomes too tolerant if taken daily

I've been on and off Xanax for over five years. This is the ONLY drug that helps my panic and anxiety attacks. It also helps take the edge off a day of major depression. This drug should not be used daily because the longer you take it, the more your body adjusts to the medication and you will need a higher dose. This drug can be addictive for SOME people, not all. It should be a back-up in case of a panic or anxiety attack or on nights when you just can't sleep due to anxiety or depression. I highly recommend this drug for those who need something every now and then; but if you suffer daily from anxiety or panic attacks, I would encourage you to look at other treatments with your doctor.

Positive aspects of this (pros): Took me right out of a panic attack when I was having one.
Negative aspects of this (cons): NONE!

I used .25-.5 mg of this when I was having a panic attack. It ALWAYS took me down, and made me feel "normal" again.
I am no longer on it, per my pdoc.

Positive aspects of this (pros): calms me down, helps me sleep
Negative aspects of this (cons): dizziness (in the beginning)

The first time around (when I was in college) I took the .5mg of generic Xanax and I could barely get out of bed. My friends literally had to grab my ankles and pull me out of bed so I could get to class (usually late).

Now the second time around, I'm on 1mg Xanax XR, and I absolutely love it. There is one problem; sometimes it makes me incredibly dizzy and disoriented. I quickly have found the solution; if I chug a bottle of water after taking it I feel fantastic.

Positive aspects of this (pros): Very Calming
Negative aspects of this (cons): Comatose State

I was put on this med by my general doctor for anxiety. Which very well could have somewhat been daily stress. Which is not supposed to happen. After THREE years of daily 6 mgs doses I was hooked. When I stopped taking it because I was feeling fine, my stomach would kill, I could not sleep, sweating & I would feel like puking.

I HAD to maintain a daily dose in my system to feel NORMAL, not even calm.

I am 26 years old & 110 lbs. So I started when I was 23. When I started going to a psych I was diagnosed with Bipolar. All I had been doing for 3 years is masking the problem.

I don't drink or do drugs. I do not have an addicting personality. But even now after getting myself off these drugs from fear of being a druggie, I STILL crave that numbing, self medicating feeling.

Benzos are THE most dangerous drug around I think. (Script wise.)

Even now my memory is nonexistent. The past 3 years are a blur to me.

The fact I did not want to stop taking them, told me it was time to.

It caused me to slur & other odd behaviors which society does not except. lol.

I am now on Seroquel waiting to add one more for my behavior. Seroquel helps with the destructive high manias I had, not with the lows.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THIS DRUG. IF YOU ARE ON IT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME WHEN YOU TRY TO STOP YOU COULD HAVE A SEIZURE. IT IS A VERY COMMON THING WITH THIS.

Positive aspects of this (pros): Relieves anxiety quickly, very slight euphoria
Negative aspects of this (cons): Stops all emotions, not just anxiety

Xanax is an interesting medication, it has very positive effects if used correctly but negative ones if used incorrectly. Xanax, as you already know, is very addictive because tolerance is built up quickly. It causes drowsiness so if you have never taken it then do not drive after you take it until you know how you will react to it. I have taken 1mg Xanax XR for over a year now and it still makes me slightly hyptnotized after I take it, a little sleepy. But it helps my anxiety. I also take 0.5 mg ativan at night to help me sleep. I will be talking with my doctor soon to figure out what to do because my anxiety is back.

Positive aspects of this (pros): quick remedy to a panic attack
Negative aspects of this (cons): can make you extremely tired

I suffer from severe panic attacks that can last for hours. I have a fear of medication and convince myself I get all the side effects. Xanax is great for when you feel an attack coming on. It allows your body to stop getting so worked up. However, you cannot take it long term and you cannot drink alcohol. I was only taking a .25 when absolutely necessary. If you are very worked up, xanax will bring you down to a normal state. If you are not that intensely worked up, it can make you feel VERY tired. I usually drink a soda with it.

Positive aspects of this (pros): Stops my panic attacks in its tracks
Negative aspects of this (cons): Affects short term memory

I have suffered with severe panic attacks brought about by agoraphobia, and panic disorder for the past 5 years. I tried the natural route, therapy, and other medications. I take 100mg of Zoloft daily, and only take 0.25mg of xanax when I feel like I may have a major panic attack, which since raising my zoloft from 50mg to 100 mg daily has almost wiped out the need for any use of xanax. Xanax is addicting, which is why I chose to take Zoloft, and supplement the Zoloft with xanax as back up for when I am under a lot of stress. Without the xanax, I would have to say, I would still be confined to my house, barely eating, and not participating in any of my childrens social events. I still suffer from anxiety, but I am managing it much better. I highly recommend Xanax for those of you that suffer with panic disorder, but use it only when needed.

Positive aspects of this (pros): works when you are using it
Negative aspects of this (cons): this drug will make you worse when you stop using it.

This drug will ruin your life. If you are one of the fortunate people to have not tried this drug then make it stay that way. It will make you worse then when you started when you try coming off it. This drug should be banned and it makes me so angry that it was made to help people. The natural way for recovery is the right way - hypnotherapy, relaxation therapy, counseling.
